Alison
Zimbalist
Alison Zimbalist is the Senior Producer, Education for The
New York Times on the Web. Her main role is heading up The New York Times Learning
Network, a free Web site for teachers of grades 3-12, their students
and parents, which provides numerous daily classroom resources based
on that day's Times. A St. Louis native, Zimbalist graduated from Emory
University
in Atlanta, Georgia with a B.A. in English and certification in language
arts grades 7-12. She taught high school language arts at Salem High
School in Conyers, Georgia for three years. After earning her M.Ed. from
Emory in 1997, Zimbalist moved to New York and taught tenth and eleventh
grade humanities at Metropolitan Corporate Academy in Brooklyn, where
she was
a member of the school steering committee and a pioneer in the school's
service learning program. Zimbalist joined The Times in August, 1998,
and has been instrumental in developing the features of the Learning
Network site from a pedagogical standpoint.
